What teh Fizuk?

I'm sure you've seen the buzz about this. So this cute little thing is an ultra cutey mac looking synthesizer. what's it do? what's it sound like? Nobody knows. These are questions I ask when everyone else is too busy wiping goo off of their mointors. Of course, that makes me the detractor because i'm thinking critically. As of right now, this thing is sitting on someones work bench. Too many things can happen and we've all seen it before: nodbody will pick up the project, it gets released as a kit and then support is dropped a year later, they make ten.

So really, why do I catch shit for simply saying I'll check it out when it finally hits the stores? Simply because I dont drop a load at the sight of another minimalist, mac-ish thing people want to pay for based on looks alone? When did critical thinking go out of style?

Oh because this thing is really gonna happen, compared to all the other failures, some even from estabilshed companies, and it's going to make me look oh so cool with my mac book pro.. I guess I'm stupid.. accessorizing with my mac is way more important than writing music..

Parts Source?
Soon after I round out my hardware setup, I want to embark on some synth DIY projects. I've never really done anything requiring such a large number of parts before and I'm confused about the myriad of options I have for sourcing parts. Say I order a PCB, do I go somewhere like mouser and just take one of everything I need? Are there some better options other than doing that? Any tips tricks I should know?

via monofonicos: Native Instruments will be introducing Maschine - a next generation groove production studio that combines hardware and software - at the 2009 NAMM Show.

Details to come!

NAAM 2009

Plan B NAAM Teaser - The Long-awaited Model Zero case, a remake of the chassis made for the Nine Inch Nails EAR Performance System will be available as a standard product in Spring of 2009 and will be on display and operational. This unique system enclosure features of 128 HP for a total of 384 HP for a three row configuration and twice that at six, and is equipped with a unique Power-Saver feature which turns off selected modules while others are still powered. See the attached photo of the beast as it awaits the arrival of the M30 (attached)

The Ringer: A cost-effective alternative to the Doepfer A3 case, The Ringer is a single row, opened back mounting system for Eurorack format modules powered by an external PSU which can drive up to four Ringers at one time. We thank Chris Pitman of Guns N' Roses for the name.

NAMM Show Preview: Novation is launching Automap 3 Pro, the latest incarnation of its intelligent music software control system.

Automap 3 Pro will support multiple hardware devices. This lets any of Novation’s hardware controllers be stacked within the Automap server. Multiple Novation controllers can then work side by side to access separate parameters on different plug-ins simultaneously.

Another key new feature is the ability to drag and drop parameters between controls, making re-assignment incredibly simple. Equally exciting is ‘Autoview’, which when activated, automatically displays Automap 3 PRO on-screen as soon as a hardware control is touched, and then hides the GUI after release.

Automap 3 Pro also now has integrated HUI control, allowing hardware mixer control for all HUI compatible DAW’s directly from Automap Pro 3.

Automap 3 is available to all existing Automap users from the Novation website for £19.99/$29.95. A reduced-feature Automap 3 Standard is also available as a free download from the website, and will include a few of Automap 3 Pro’s features, but will not support multiple devices.

Dar Star (1974) trailer featuring music by John Carpenter.

Anybody know what music he used on the sound track? I would guess an Arp.
